The WoW Forever name reservation date was October 27 through November 3, 2026, and that window has closed, so no name can be claimed early any more. Eligible buyers could lock in up to three characters across every ruleset, first come first served, with each full name — first name plus surname — unique across the whole region. Forever launched on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, and access now comes with a WoW subscription or Game Time.
Reservation dates and start times
The window ran October 27 through November 3, 2026, and each region opened at its own local hour.
| Region | Reservations opened |
| Europe | October 27 at 18:00 CET |
| North America | October 27 at 1:00 p.m. PDT |
| Korea | October 28 at 07:00 KST |
| Taiwan | October 28 at 07:00 CST |
Korean and Taiwanese notices dated the window October 28 through November 4 rather than October 27 through November 3.
Blizzard gave no closing time for either end date, only the day. The WoW Forever release date was November 4, 2026, so the reservation period sat in the final days before launch.
Was name reservation delayed?
The opening did not go to plan: technical problems held reservations back, Europe came up before North America, and while disconnection reports eased, missing rulesets were still being reported.
Players who had waited for the scheduled hour found the servers and the reservation tool still failing hours after it.
Who could reserve a name
Reservation came with the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack, the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, or a qualifying Digital Upgrade or Collector's Edition purchase. The benefit applied only to the specific WoW account it was bought for.
Heroic sold for €29.99 or $29.99, Epic for €59.99 or $59.99 and the Collection for €79.99 or $79.99. The physical Collector's Edition qualified through the Warcraft Forever Collection code inside the box, not through the beta key emailed at purchase.
An active subscription or Game Time was not needed for the reservation phase; owning one of the three editions was the only requirement. Invite-A-Friend launch codes carried no reservation access.
Accounts could reserve at most three characters in total across all rulesets, so two on a PvP ruleset left a single slot for Normal or Role-Play. A desired name was never guaranteed, whichever pack you bought.

How the claim worked
Reservation happened inside the Forever client, through character creation.
- Update your graphics drivers and install or update the Battle.net desktop app.
- Select World of Warcraft from the app's game list.
- In the Game Version menu above Play, choose World of Warcraft: Forever and install it.
- Select Play and pick your ruleset.
- Create up to three characters with the names you want.
For a popular spelling, the quick route was to create the character without customising its appearance, then delete and recreate it with the look you want once the game was live. Keep a few backup pairs ready, because the full two-name combination is what gets taken.
The three-character cap covered only Early Name Reservation; Blizzard has not said how many characters an account can create now that the game is live.
First names, surnames and regional uniqueness
Every Forever character carries two name parts, entered together as a full name in character creation, and the surname cannot be left empty.
Only the complete pair has to be unique, and the check runs across your whole region rather than a single realm. Two characters can share a first name as long as the surnames differ — Asha Brightvale, Thalen Brightvale and Mira Brightvale can exist side by side. The pool is shared across rulesets, so a full name taken on one ruleset is unavailable on the others in your region.
Guilds and alt sets can wear a family-style surname as long as every combination stays free. To hide the surname over your character in the world, press Escape, open Options, then Nameplates, and clear My Secondary Name; chat still shows the full name.
A name has to follow the in-game rules of conduct, and since the checker examines both fields at once, separating a banned word across them will not make it acceptable. If a pair is taken, we'd change the surname rather than the first name: your main name is what other players call you day to day, and only the complete pair has to be unique.
Ruleset and faction choices
Characters cannot move between rulesets, so the ruleset you create on is the one you keep playing, and it decides who you can group with. Agree on it with your friends before you create anything.
PvP limits you to one faction on that ruleset, while Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore allow both factions. Faction balancing can temporarily close one side to new characters, so a missing faction button is a reason to wait rather than commit to the other side.
The WoW Forever RP-PvP ruleset was set to arrive with the November 4 launch and to be offered when reservation opened on October 27.
Restricted names and errors
On October 27 a Blizzard community manager wrote that Oceanic players connecting to Australian servers had to create Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP characters before any Normal or PvP character, because a first Normal or PvP character made both roleplay rulesets unavailable afterwards; a fix was being worked on urgently.
The restricted-name filter was also too strict during reservation week: it rejected valid names that included "con", and a correction was scheduled for each region's next realm restart. Retry a name the filter wrongly rejected once your region has restarted.
What players report
Players on the official WoW: Forever forums reported what the reservation days were like, and these are their accounts rather than confirmed behaviour.
- 7 players were stuck in a loop of full login servers, a queue, retrieving server information and then a disconnect (WOW51900102), one writing “Currently this is what I’m experiencing: Login Servers are full.”
- 16 players got a valid access license error (WOW51900337) and could not enter any ruleset despite owning a qualifying pack
- 5 players could not log into the RP or RP-PvE ruleset, getting no realms available while other rulesets worked
- 4 players hit a ruleset temporarily unavailable or no servers available error when trying to pick a ruleset for their reserved name
- 2 players found characters created on the Normal ruleset appearing on the RP-PvP ruleset instead
- 3 players said repeated attempts eventually got them in and let them reserve all three names, one reached the RP ruleset by connecting to Normal first and then switching, and 2 moved their names from PvE to RP by deleting the characters and recreating them there
Im worried about the time it releases because I work mornings central time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still reserve my name in WoW Forever?
No. The window ran October 27 through November 3, 2026 and closed before the November 4 launch, so names are now claimed by creating a character in the live game.
Do stress-test names carry over?
No. Characters, names and guilds created during the October 21 stress test were wiped at its end.
Does the Collector's Edition beta key unlock name reservation?
No. The emailed beta key only grants beta access; reservation access came from the Warcraft Forever Collection code inside the physical box.
What if the full name I want is taken?
Choose a different combination, or take a chance with the in-game random name generator.
