What the beta level cap is right now
The beta opened on September 17, 2026 with the level cap set to 20, and Blizzard stated the cap would be raised to 30 later in the test. Developers described the same sequence in an interview, with the cap going to 30 after a couple of weeks. Either way, 20 is the ceiling you are playing against at the start of the test, and 30 is the highest the beta reaches.
What level 20 unlocks in the beta
Week 1 of the test includes all zone content up to level 20, so the open-world questing available to you is capped at exactly that level. Two dungeons are live in the same window:
- Hall of Thanes, for levels 13–18
- Ruins of Lordaeron, for levels 15–20
The beta also adds the Skyborne race and its starting zone, Zephras Isle. More zones, dungeons and a new battleground open for testing as the beta continues.
What the cap gates
Anything designed above level 20 sits outside the current test window — additional zones and dungeons are held back for later in the beta. The level-30 cap is the point at which those later additions become testable, which is why the bump matters more than the number itself. How long the beta runs
The beta is available through October 21, the last full day of testing, as final preparations for launch begin. Forever launches on November 4, 2026. Blizzard also planned a "Server Slam" window later in the test period when the servers open to anyone for several hours.
What carries over — and what does not
Nothing carries over. Beta progress does not transfer to WoW Forever at launch. Treat everything you do at level 20 as testing rather than investment, and expect the numbers behind classes and systems to keep moving: a beta patch on September 25, 2026 reworked dozens of class abilities, and Blizzard said new abilities, talents, profession items and the Excavation Site dungeon were still coming.
