WoW Forever PvP progression runs on two separate tracks: Honor, a currency you earn from PvP content and spend on gear, and Rank Points, which fill your ranking bar toward ranks 1 through 14. Rank Points have a weekly cap, so the climb to Grand Marshal or High Warlord is a multi-week journey rather than a single grind session. You can watch both tracks from your Character Pane, and the fastest start is simply queueing battlegrounds and picking up the PvP quests tied to them.
How Honor Works
Honor is a currency earned by taking part in PvP content, including defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing relevant PvP quests. Highlighted battlegrounds during their holiday weeks grant increased Honor. Honor gains across battlegrounds were reviewed so acquisition rates are more consistent, so you are not pushed into Alterac Valley purely for Honor efficiency.
Honor is spent, not accumulated forever: you can only hold up to 25,000 Honor at a time, so spend it while you rank. PvP items cost from 750 to 15,000 Honor, with cheap items like potions and Insignias at the low end and chest pieces and weapons at the high end. The best PvP items also cost Battleground marks, including the new Darkspear Islands Mark of Honor.
How Rank Points and Ranks Work
Rank Points come from PvP activities such as battlegrounds and relevant PvP quests, with holiday-week battlegrounds offering an additional boost. As you earn them, you advance through the familiar PvP ranks from original World of Warcraft, working toward High Warlord for the Horde or Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Ranks have a weekly cap, which keeps the foundation of the original system while making the journey more accessible.
Rank Points are a separate currency from Honor and are never spent — they fill the ranking bar and increase your rank. You cannot convert Honor into Rank Points or the reverse, and buying a PvP item does not slow your ranking down. Unlike original Classic rankings, your rank is not decided by your position on a ladder, and it does not decay every week.
The system offers 14 distinct ranks with titles running from Private/Scout to Grand Marshal/High Warlord. Each rank costs more Rank Points than the last, with Rank 14 requiring a total of 24,750 Rank Points. Reaching a rank only grants that rank's title — gear and cosmetics are bought from vendors with Honor.
| Rank | Alliance title | Horde title |
| 1 | Private | Scout |
| 4 | Master Sergeant | Senior Sergeant |
| 5 | Sergeant Major | First Sergeant |
| 6 | Knight | Stone Guard |
| 7 | Knight-Lieutenant | Blood Guard |
| 8 | Knight-Captain | Legionnaire |
| 14 | Grand Marshal | High Warlord |
The Weekly Rank Cap
There is a weekly cap on the maximum rank you can reach based on the current week of the season. Datamining points to a schedule where Week 1 caps you at Rank 3, Week 2 at Rank 5, Week 3 at Rank 6, Week 4 at Rank 7, Week 5 at Rank 8, Week 6 at Rank 9, Week 7 at Rank 11, Week 8 at Rank 12, Week 9 at Rank 13, and Week 10 onward at Rank 14. That means you cannot grind to Rank 14 in the first week of the season — it is a 10+ week journey to the maximum PvP rank.
Seasonal Weekly Tasks
Each PvP season includes a journey with weekly tasks to complete. Completing those tasks grants Honor and Rank Points, and three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. Because these tasks are tied to the Legacy System, they remain available to complete in future seasons.
Progressing through PvP ranks also unlocks up to 5 different Legacy Challenges. Legacy Challenge progress does not reset, so if you only want the Legacy Challenge for reaching Rank 14, you only need to do that grind during one season.
How to View Your PvP Progress
Open your Character Pane with Hotkey-C, then select the Player vs. Player tab on the right side of the interface. It shows your rank, your current Rank Points, and which rewards are available for purchase based on your rank.
PvP Rewards by Rank
Honor buys two sets of PvP gear: one blue-quality set and one epic-quality set. The epic set requires the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal to upgrade it, and Emboldened Seals have rank requirements you must reach before purchasing. Rare-quality PvP gear is not locked behind ranks and can be bought right away from vendors, and rare pieces require Level 55 to wear.
Rank requirements for PvP item rewards:
- Rank 1 — Tabard
- Rank 2 — PvP Trinket
- Rank 3 — Cloaks
- Rank 4 — Necklace
- Rank 5 — Combat Potions
- Rank 6 — Tabard
- Rank 7 — Battle Standard
- Rank 8 — Epic Bracers/Epic Belt Upgrade Token
- Rank 9 — Epic Boots Upgrade Token
- Rank 10 — Epic Gloves Upgrade Token
- Rank 11 — Mounts
- Rank 12 — Epic Legs/Epic Shoulders Upgrade Token
- Rank 13 — Epic Chest/Epic Helm Upgrade Token
- Rank 14 — Epic Weapons
For the season's transmog set you only need Rank 13, since Rank 14 unlocks the weapon arsenal instead. Battle Standards, unlocked at Rank 7, are items you drop with a 10-minute cooldown that increase health from all nearby allies by 15%. PvP vendors are located in Stormwind at the Champions' Hall and in Orgrimmar at the Hall of Legends, and Alliance players can also find vendors in the Dalaran Sewers.
Where to Start
Queue battlegrounds and complete the relevant PvP quests attached to them — that is what feeds both Honor and Rank Points. Holiday-week battlegrounds give you more Honor, so prioritize whichever battleground is highlighted that week. Spend your Honor as you go rather than letting it sit at the 25,000 cap, and check the Character Pane's Player vs. Player tab to see how close you are to your next rank. If you want the battleground farming handled for you, the WoW Forever Marks of Honor Boost takes the queueing and farming off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Honor raise your rank?
No. Honor is the currency used to purchase PvP items, while Rank Points are the currency used to climb through the ranks. The two are independent and cannot be converted into one another.
What do you get at Rank 14?
Rank 14 unlocks Epic Weapons and the Grand Marshal or High Warlord title.
How long does Rank 14 take?
At minimum it is a 10+ week journey because of the weekly rank cap. The season length is not known, but it will likely run more than 10 weeks, with 20 to 25 weeks the likely range based on the roadmap.
Do ranks reset between seasons?
Rank Points reset between seasons, and your rank is reset when a season closes, so you must restart the grind. Each new season brings a new set of items to obtain, including armor, weapons, and the Black War mount. Legacy Challenge progress does not reset.
What is the new battleground in WoW Forever?
WoW Forever launches with the Darkspear Islands, a battleground modeled after The Burning Crusade's Eye of the Storm, where players capture points across the isle and bring the flag to a faction-controlled area to score.
