WoW Forever racial changes are headed to the Beta in next week's build, with the developers singling out Orc and Troll active racials as possibly too strong. The team is also weighing whether to keep or replace the weapon skill passives that currently boost Spell and Ability Critical Strike chance. The changes were not live on the Beta at the time of the announcement, and the team expected them to appear in next week's Beta build rather than that week's.

What is changing in the next Beta build

The Orc and Troll active racial abilities are the first target. Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield said the team is looking at actives like the Orc and Troll racials and how strong they are, "perhaps a little too strong". Those are most likely Blood Fury and Berserking, the two abilities that actively affect damage and healing done.

Weapon skill passives are the second target. WoW Forever did not keep the pure Weapon Skill increase racials from Vanilla, and instead added updated versions that increase Spell and Ability Critical Strike chance. The developers are looking closely at whether to keep those or replace them with something else. Those racials might not be around when the full game launches in November.

Shatter Curse and Rapid Regeneration are also powerful racials and might be caught in the nerf cross-fire, though they will not reduce your overall DPS.

When the changes hit the Beta

The team was actively working on the changes during the week of the announcement, and expected no changes on that week's Beta — the new takes on the racial abilities were expected to start showing up in the following week's build. WoW Forever's Beta runs from September 17 through October 21, 2026.

Current racial abilities in the Beta

Each race has four racials: two actives — one offensive or defensive cooldown and one more of an RP ability — and two passives.

Why racials are such a hot topic

Racial abilities have been a massive discussion topic, pushing many players to reevaluate which race and class combo they will play and to wonder what the best race for every class will be. Comparing certain races' abilities, such as a Dwarf to an Orc, has seemed almost incomparable. Common complaints have centered on how strong Orc racial abilities are in general, and on Dwarves being the only Alliance race that can be a Shaman, which causes issues with overall faction balance. The community's read is that Horde racials overall outpower Alliance, and some balancing may follow next week.
