BfA Achievements: A Complete Overview
Achievements in WoW: The Basis
Just like any other game, World of Warcraft has its way to track the heroic deeds and notable accomplishments of it’s players. Achievements in WoW are meta-goals that, unlike quests, reputation and other mechanics, that have direct impact on your progression, are not tied directly to gameplay, but instead, serve as a measurement of your skill and/or dedication towards a set goal. For instance, getting some of the pet battles achievements gives you access to related titles, unlocks many rare new pets to level and fight with and even boost your ability to fight different pets that inhabit the game world. Having the “Pet Battles” section of your achievement stats filled shows to everyone that you are an accomplished pet battler and “know your stuff”.
On the other hand, there are sections that require nothing but determination and a huge time investment to obtain them. Fishing, Archaeology or Cooking achievements are not particularly hard to get, but they usually require you to travel to various parts of the world and do some basic stuff there to fulfill the conditions. The said conditions are not too hard, but having to wait for up to six months just to catch a fish or dig up an artifact kinda is!
This, coupled with the fact that all of Pre-BfA achievements don’t necessarily HAVE to be done (unless you are interested in the rewards) and can be skipped without major effect on the gameplay, explains why most of the players choose to omit such achievements, leaving them only to most dedicated anglers, cooks and collectors.
Achievements: What’s new in BfA?
BfA Achievements are somewhat innovative in this regard. While the “nearly non-existent skill requirements” part of what’s been said still applies to them, the “completely optional” in some cases, does not.
In Battle for Azeroth, just about any late-game activity has been tied to a respective meta-achievement that you or anyone who is willing to get somewhere in this game has to accomplish. And while most of BfA achievements are account-wide and easy to get while leveling, meaning that you won’t have to do them more than once if you don’t want to, they also give you some of the strongest rewards in the game.
World Quests and Reputation
Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, for instance, rewards you with an ability to fly in Azeroth, which greatly reduces the time you’ll have to spend travelling from point A to point B.
Completing the War Campaign was required for just about anything else, like World Quests and Mythic+, which obviously translates into late-game raiding. Luckily, this requirement has been removed in BfA 8.3 patch and you can participate in the main PvE activity of the expansion right after you hit level 120.
Improving your reputation standing with various factions which not only does have a respective achievement for every faction, but also unified under the “Azerothian Diplomat” meta-achievement, gives you access to buying some of the strongest enchantments for your gear and weapons in the game, and even some of the best Azerite Essences for your Heart of Azeroth.
Island Expeditions and Warfronts
Battle for Azeroth also introduced a couple of completely new PvE and PvP zones. In previous expansions, we all sunk a lot of our precious time fighting each other and getting our Tol Barad and Wintergrasp achievements. While being arguably the best places to hang out between other activities, these fights did not have any major impact on the story of the game. This is not the case in BfA.
Island Expeditions and Warfronts are both needed to progress the plot of the game for you, and should be farmed to keep you relevant to the game’s ever-increasing gear cutoffs. This makes sure that you’ll spend quite a bit of time having fun with these modes. Don’t forget to collect various rare mounts, pets and toys along the way!
The Usual Stuff
And on top of that, you get the usual Glories, which are accomplished by beating various dungeons and raids under special conditions. These haven’t been changed at all – give you mounts and titles, like they always did, and not much else. Also, BfA 8.3 introduced a great deal of new mount achievements to attract collectors from all around the WoW community.
BfA 8.3 also introduced Worgen and Goblin heritage armor which surely made those who play said races spend some time in the dressing room. The armor sets are surging with flavor and are among the prettiest and well-designed to this date. The conditions are the same as for other races: have a level 120 Worgen or Goblin character with Exalted standing with their home faction (Gilneas or Bilgewater Cartel) and complete a quest line.
