Can you give me a rundown on the Ascendancy classes in Path of Exile 2?
The Ascendancy classes are what makes your character unique even within a chosen Base class. During the Early Access, we’re given six Base classes and twelve Ascendancy classes to choose from, with later patches bringing in more Ascendancy classes and, one day, even new Base classes.
Here’s what the class system in Path of Exile 2 looks like now, in the early Early Access (that’s not a typo):
- Warrior Base class:
- Warbringer Ascendancy class — this one would remind you of a Barbarian class from the Diablo universe, relying on the aid of summoned ancestors during the battle; also, a Warbringer can increase his armor and make the enemy corpses in the vicinity explode;
- Titan Ascendancy class — this subclass is all about slams, crushing blows, aftershocks, stunning enemies, and added damage;
- Sorceress:
- Stormweaver — a classic lightning elementalist wielding Elemental Storm and Shock abilities;
- Chronomancer — somewhat similar to a Wizard from Diablo 3, but with more depth; freeze time and teleport to control your enemies!
- Mercenary:
- Witchhunter — poor Witches… the pivotal features of this Ascendancy class are more magic resistance in exchange for physical resistance, plus an ability to break enemies’ Concentration, disrupting their casts;
- Gemling Legionnaire — three more Skill Slots for you Legionnaires! This Ascendancy class specializes in all things that boost the efficiency of their Skill gems, including the aforementioned addition of three extra Skill Slots;
- Monk:
- Invoker — an elementalist, through and through; invoke the power of elements to protect yourself and bring your enemies down!
- Acolyte of Chayula — this is what happens to Monks when their dedication shifts to Darkness; Darkness is your new resource instead of Spirit, and all the quirky Darkness management skills paired with a Darkness-centered approach to dealing damage!
- Ranger:
- Deadeye — this Ascendancy class is designed for long-range battles as there’s no Accuracy penalty for your Ranger anymore, plus increased speed and more projectiles;
- Pathfinder — like rogue-style gameplay with lots of Bleeding and Poisoning your enemies? Pathfinder, with their increased mobility and underhanded methods of slaying enemies, is for you!
- Witch:
- Bloodmage — as the name suggests, this Witch Ascendancy class is centered on all things Blood: invoking shields, enfeebling enemies, healing, and increasing critical strike damage — all due to the Blood mastery;
- Infernalist — this gives off a ton of infernal and demonic vibes, with demonic summons, demonic form, and Infernal Flame skills!
