LoL Ranking System

League of Legends features a unique ranking system, distinct from other competitive games. Players are divided into 10 ranks, listed below:

  1. Iron;
  2. Bronze;
  3. Silver;
  4. Gold;
  5. Platinum;
  6. Emerald;
  7. Diamond;
  8. Master;
  9. Grandmaster;
  10. Challenger.

Ranks from Iron to Diamond are each divided into 4 divisions that you must progress through during your climb. The Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger ranks represent the top-tier players in LoL and have their own special ranking systems and criteria for promotion.

Promotions, Demotions, and Decay

To increase your rank in League of Legends, you need to earn League Points by winning ranked games. Promoting between divisions requires 100 LP. The number of points you gain or lose depends on the MMR difference between your team and your opponents.

Losing a match will cause you to lose LP. If your LP drops below 0, you’ll be demoted to a lower division.

There’s also something called LP Decay. If you’re ranked Diamond or higher and don’t play ranked matches for a long time, you’ll begin to lose LP daily until you play again. This system encourages consistent activity among high-ranked players.
