Stats are important, but you know what’s more important? Looking fabulous while you slay dragons. Enter Transmogrification, the feature that lets you change your gear’s appearance without sacrificing your god-tier stats.

Want to slay Mythic bosses while dressed like you’re in Tier 2 from 2004? Done. Feel like creating your own unique mish-mash of armor pieces to confuse your enemies? You can do that too. Your wardrobe choices are limited only by your imagination and your ability to farm old content.

Whether you’re putting together the perfect “slaughter everything while looking classy” set or just trolling your guildmates with mismatched clown gear, transmog is here to let you express yourself. So go nuts! Remember, you might be a warrior tanking the Lich King, but you can still look like a level 1 character if that’s your jam.

Head to any major city and ask a guard for directions to the nearest Transmogrifier. These NPCs are the ultimate fashion designers, here to change your gear’s appearance for a small fee.

Once you find your local transmogrification expert, talk to them and get ready for a wardrobe makeover. You’ll see a list of items you’ve unlocked in your Wardrobe, and you can pick and choose from there. Click, preview, and boom—you’re looking fresh. Want to change your weapon’s appearance so it looks like you’re wielding Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, even though you’re just hitting stuff with a green-quality stick? Totally doable.

Pro tip: if you’re really serious about saving time, consider getting the Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak mount. It has a portable transmogrifier on the back. That means you can change your look anywhere, even in the middle of a raid.

And the vendor onboard? He’s perfect for selling off junk when your bags inevitably fill up with useless greys.

Now, the price tag is a bit spicy – 120,000 gold. But hey, looking good doesn’t come cheap. You can buy it from Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-Lai Summit. His coordinates are 65.4, 61.6, if you’re the map-pinning type. Sure, it’s a bit of a trek, but once you get that yak, you’ll never need to run back to town just to update your transmog again.

Your transmog collection is account-wide, which means your alts can rock the looks your main has unlocked. No need to farm everything again on every character. Just unlock it once, and you’re good to go. However, there are a few restrictions.

First, your alts can only wear armor that matches their class type. So, no putting your mage in plate armor.

Also, if you’re playing WoW Classic transmog doesn’t work the same way. Progression servers and Classic Era have separate wardrobes, so don’t expect to carry over your flashy retail looks to those old-school realms.

And yes, the item must be soulbound, and any refund or trade timers must expire before you can use it. But aside from those small hiccups, you’re free to mix and match on all your characters. So go ahead, transmog your alt army into looking as epic as your main without farming everything multiple times. 

First off, the item you want to transmog has to be part of your Wardrobe. That means you need to have looted it and had it soulbound. Oh, and once you trade or sell the item, poof! The appearance vanishes from your Wardrobe. No keeping that legendary look while pawning it off for gold.

Your character also has to be able to equip the item. So, sorry druids, you can’t go around rocking rogue-specific daggers—even if you really, really want to. Also, the armor type must match your class’s primary armor. If you’re a warrior, don’t expect to wear cloth just because it looks cool.

Normally, you do need to fork over some gold to change your look. Each piece you want to transmog comes with a fee, and if you’re constantly updating your look, those costs can add up.

There’s one glorious exception: the Trial of Style. During this event, you can transmog to your heart’s content without spending a single copper. That’s right, it’s a free fashion week! And if that wasn’t enough, you can even compete against other players to see who has the best ensemble. Think of it as WoW’s version of a runway show, except instead of sassy models, it’s orcs and elves competing for first place.
