Frequently Asked Questions
The level requirements and skill limits for the professions are mind-boggling. Could you clarify this for me?
Yes, we’ll gladly clarify this for you since the profession skill levels are indeed somewhat confusing, and each site provides a different perspective.
First of all, you can learn all the Secondary Professions (First Aid, Archaeology, Fishing, and Cooking) at character level 1; there are no restrictions. But all the Primary Professions, of which you can learn only two per character, become available at character level 5 onward. In Cataclysm Classic, the skill limit for any profession is 525 (a 75-point increase compared to the WotLK cap of 450). Each profession is divided into skill ranks representing skill point ranges: Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan, Master, Grand Master, and Illustrious Grand Master.
However, the in-between skill point ranges of two neighboring ranks intersect, meaning that if you are an Apprentice and have 50 skill points in Alchemy, you can either rank up to Journeyman or linger a bit on the current Apprentice rank until you get 75 skill points which is a hard cap for Apprentice. So, to sum this up, there’s a soft cap in skill points allowing you to get the next rank from that moment onward, and there’s a hard cap, which is 25 skill points above the soft cap — you may call it a buffer zone between ranks. The soft cap value is the one you will see as an upgrade requirement at the profession trainer’s window. A lot of confusion stems from that and the fact there’s also a character level requirement for each rank. Let’s look at the numbers.
- Skill level 1 (upon learning a Primary Profession) — this is the starting point for any profession when you learn it, available once your character reaches character level 5;
- Skill levels 1–50–75 — this skill point range aligns with the Apprentice profession rank. You get the soft cap (shown in bold) at skill level 50, which is the point when you can learn the next rank, and if you don’t fancy learning it yet, you can laze around until you’ve gained 25 more skill points and only then learn the next rank. You can play within this skill range with a character of at least character level 5;
- Skill levels 75–125–150 — here’s the next rank called Journeyman. You can earn it starting with the previous rank’s soft cap, which is skill level 50, but that would be way too many numbers here, so we’ll only show the hard cap of the previous rank, which is skill level 75. So, from skill level 50–75 onward, once you’ve learned this new Journeyman rank at the profession trainer, there’s no more cap for you for a while, and you can level up your profession skills until this rank’s soft cap at skill level 125. Or, yet again, if you wish to linger for a bit, there’s a hard cap for you with 150 skill points. You can play within this skill range with a character of at least character level 10 (this level will be shown as a requirement for the Journeyman skill rank at the trainer’s window, i.e., to be able to play within this skill range, you have to have at least 50 skill points and level 10 character to upgrade to it);
- Skill levels 150–200–225 — the same logic applies here and further on. This is the Expert rank. You can play within this skill range with a character of at least character level 20;
- Skill levels 225–275–300 — this is the Artisan rank. You need to have at least character level 35;
- Skill levels 300–350–375 — this is the Master rank. You need to have at least character level 50;
- Skill levels 375–425–450 — this is the Grand Master rank. You need to have at least character level 65;
- Skill levels 450–525 (max) — this is the Illustrious Grand Master rank. You need to have at least character level 75. Of course, leveling up your Alchemy profession in the Cataclysm Classic zones with a level 75 character would be most frustrating, so you’d better level up a bit.
World of Warcraft game achievements for unlocking the ranks for your professions are account-wide and will stay in your achievement log forever, but what it means is that earning higher ranks in other professions, be it crafting, gathering, or secondary, will yield no achievements once the professions are maxed out.
What’s new in Cataclysm Alchemy Profession in the new expansion?
Of all Cataclysm Classic professions, Alchemy, always indulging all its potions, elixirs, and crafting flasks, has seen a wild addition in the form of Vial of the Sands flying mount you can transform into and carry your allies. Even Engineering, with all its tinkering and… electronic arts, so to say, does not come close to it. You need an Alchemy skill level of 525 (maxed out) and an Archaeology skill level of 450 to be able to find it and create it.
Another point of interest in Alchemy is its ilvl 359 epic trinkets only Alchemists can use; these improve the restorative effects from health and mana potions you drink by 40%, but their bonuses are not limited to that:
- Lifebound Alchemist Stone — improves your Stamina;
- Volatile Alchemist Stone — improves your Strength;
- Quicksilver Alchemist Stone — improves your Agility and Critical Strike Rating;
- Vibrant Alchemist Stone — improves your Intellect and Haste Rating.
Alchemists cannot create weapons. Weapons are made by Blacksmiths.
Finally, there are two guild achievements you don’t want to overlook as an Alchemist, as the benefits pay off well in dungeons, PvP, and raids. The Recipe: Cauldron of Battle and Recipe: Big Cauldron of Battle items become available for purchase from your guild vendor once you’ve reached Honored reputation with your guild (at this level of reputation, you can purchase from your guild vendor) and earned two guild achievements: Mix Master and Better Leveling Through Chemistry, respectively. As a guild member, you and other Alchemists need to craft any of the Cataclysm Alchemy flasks 1000 times (for Mix Master) or 3000 times (for BLTC) in total in any proportions:
- Flask of Flowing Water;
- Flask of Steelskin;
- Flask of the Draconic Mind;
- Flask of the Winds;
- Flask of Titanic Strength.
Those flasks themselves can be used later in PvP, dungeons, and raids, but those recipes give you the ability to craft the Cauldron of Battle and the Big Cauldron of Battle, respectively, for your dungeons, PvP, or raids. Those can be used to buff your party members.
These guild perks help you increase the effectiveness of your Cauldrons:
- Chug-A-Lug level 1 and Chug-A-Lug level 2 — increase the duration of flasks from Cauldrons by 50% and 100%, respectively; perks unlock at guild levels 10 and 22, respectively;
- Happy Hour — increases the amount of flasks obtainable from the Cauldrons by 50%; unlocks at guild level 20.
Can I expect you to provide the price match option for Cataclysm Classic Alchemy Profession Boost?
Yes, you can expect us to do that, most surely. As we always say, this option would be available for you if the service provider you’ve seen offering the Cataclysm Classic Alchemy Profession boost at a lower price is credible. If you’re not sure if it’s a scam or not, check their Trustpilot profile, if available.
